Chatting rugs and interiors with Francesca Gentilli
Posted on 02 August 2017
We recently met Francesca for coffee and to discover what lead her to launch her beautiful rug company and what we can expect to see in the future. Read the interview in full below.
Which design has been your favourite to date?
My favourite Indian Dhurrie design has got to be the ‘Atari’ design. It was one of my first designs and also one of the most popular. I love it’s simplicity and it can go in almost any interior!
What interiors advice would you give someone who is afraid of mixing patterns in the same room?
I am a big believer of ‘more is more’. At home I have millions of textures and patterns in all rooms. I’d say if you’re going to do it then be bold and really go for it! As long as there is a common theme then you have nothing to worry about.
What do you find most challenging about your work?
The most challenging aspect at the moment is being a one-man band. Designing and sourcing the rugs is a pleasure and a delight, and I adore it. But finding enough time in the day to do everything else can sometimes be a bit overwhelming!
What's on the horizon for Francesca Gentilli?
The dream is one day to have a shop and to fill it with wonderful things. Not only rugs, but other interior products that I have found along the way. Quite a large part of my job is going to client's homes to help them not only with our bespoke service but also to offer interior advice.
Lastly what top tip would you give someone embarking on a business of their own?
I would say you absolutely have to be passionate about what you do or what you are about to start, this is how my business started. I bought a rug and loved the whole process and they have slowly become a little obsession of mine…
